The Office of Library Services (OLIS) is responsible for implementing electronic library services. OLIS is staffed by
an experienced and knowledgeable team of technical professionals
that enables the Office to provide SUNY with cost effective, high quality library
services.
Our mission is to provide leadership, advocacy, and support
for the University's system of libraries and to facilitate the broadest level of access to
its collection and information resources equally to all
students, faculty, and staff.
Promote and support the State University of New York's
libraries as a rich, responsive and extensive information resource which supports the
educational mission of the University.
Establish multiple University-wide contracts which have the potential for providing cost effective
and enhanced library services.
Coordinate with campuses and administration in
University-wide library planning, development, and promotion of appropriate policies and standards.
Provide leadership in library automation and
telecommunications planning and policies and play an active role in library community
planning.
Promote participation and involvement of SUNY libraries
in technological and telecommunications activities and policies including national
standards acceptance within the University, the larger library community, the state, and
national communities.
Advocate the appropriate use and integration of library
technology and services in other areas of educational technology, such as media services,
distance learning and academic computing.
Engage in and support relevant research and development
which have the potential for enhancing library services.
Seek grants to further the University-wide library
program, either as a single institution or in concert with colleague institutions.
Advocate and provide support
for SUNY libraries in the most effective use of human and technological resources.
