SUNYergy (soon-er-gee)
A publication of the Office of Library and Information Services

"From the Greek 'sunergos' -- working together. The action of two or more [SUNY] substances, organs, organisms to achieve an effect of which each is individually incapable." (Derived from Webster's II New Riverside University Dictionary definition for "synergy")

"Interaction of discrete [SUNY] agencies or agents such that the total effect is greater than the sum of the individual effects." (Derived from Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary definition for "synergy")

Web2
Software from Data Research Associates used to search library catalogs and other databases via a WWW interface. As used by SUNY, Web2 is a WWW interface to a Z39.50 client/server (or
origin/ target) system. This allows for searching and displaying databases from disparate systems as well as for various hypertext and interface customization options.

Z39.50
An international standard for information storage and retrieval systems. Z39.50-compliant systems can, theoretically, be accessed and searched by other software systems compliant with the standard.
