The directive that we were given from [the SUNY Council of Library Directors] was to select a system that would facilitate, enhance, and build upon the sharing that the LAIP project began. Coming from a beginning LAIP library, I have enjoyed the benefits of such a library relationship for 10 years and would fight to keep it. Forty of our 70+ SUNY libraries have been greatly enhanced by this sharing over these years.

Dear John and all the SUNYergy editors--

Stylistic niceties provide some of the best moments in reading. You have transformed what might have been a dry exposition of the <longer> history of SUNY library automation with the phrase "LASG begat SLAM." Congratulations. The stylistic history of THAT type of phrasing evokes works being written some two millennia ago.
That said, I should like to point out that INDIVIDUAL SUNY library automation initiatives obviously pre-dated the LAIP project, and they probably should be accorded recognition for blazing some library automation trails that LAIP could follow. LAIP showed that SUNY library COOPERATION could be taken to another, higher level. With ALL the past SUNY library automation projects joining together in the current SLAM project for a common library management system migration -- now that's the stuff of Moses, too!

Thanks.
