- SUNY libraries have access to some two dozen databases from The Gale Group. This free
trial period runs through August 30, 1999. The Gale Group now includes IAC (Information
Access Company). Since IAC and New York State have a current contract, it is expected that
all the other Gale databases could be licensed without having to negotiate additional
contracts. These databases include:

- The SUNYConnect Advisory Council reviewed a revised financial plan on June 29,
1999. In its first year (1999/2000) the financial plan proposes a $1.00 per FTE levy for
all of the four-year institutions in SUNY, with the two-year colleges' levy set at $0.50
per FTE. The monies would be used to supplement funds for purchase of SUNY-wide access to
core electronic resources. This approach corresponds to the model proposed in a SUNY Council of Library Directors
resolution approved at its April 1999 meeting.
- SLiCAT met and recommended establishing a free trial of databases from Gale. See above.
- The proposals received by the July 2nd deadline in response to the Information Literacy
Course RFP are currently being evaluated. A team representing SUNY libraries, the SUNY
Learning Network, SUNY teaching faculty and SUNY/OLIS is carrying out the evaluation,
which is expected to be completed near the end of July.
SUNYConnect
"giveaways," including a colorful canvas tote bag bearing the SUNYConnect
logo, were well received at the annual conference of the SUNY Librarians Association.
