LMS Vendor
The vendor recommendation has been submitted to the Provost. On August 9, 1999 the name of
Ex Libris Inc.
was sent to Provost Salins. Contract negotiations are expected to begin soon.
Contract Team
Negotiating the contract with Ex Libris will be Mary Ann Corsetti (SUNY Contracts), Carey
Hatch (SUNY/OLIS), Janet Potter (Oneonta), Maureen Zajkowski (SUNY/OLIS). Members of the
LMS Evaluation Team will provide suggestions regarding important negotiating points.
Financial Plan
The SUNYConnect Advisory Council is finalizing a five-year financial plan for the
program. Various SUNY-wide budget funds are utilized in the plan. Campus contributions are
also part of the financial plan. The budget covers LMS hardware, software, implementation,
training, support and maintenance; current and future SUNYConnect databases;
document delivery; and information literacy resources. Currently, the plan does not
include monies for off-site storage facilities.
Planning Group
The SUNYConnect LMS Planning Team has begun meeting. This group is charged to
develop criteria for selecting host sites, criteria for determining campus readiness, and
implementation schedules. The SUNYConnect Advisory Council plans to use these
criteria in its implementation decision-making.
OLIS Staff
The OLIS has been unable to make an official job offer to the person selected earlier this
year. Final approval awaits resolution of SUNY System Administration budget questions. The
new staff member, when approved, will work with SUNY libraries migrating to the SUNYConnect
LMS.
Database Survey
The OLIS is developing a WWWeb-based survey designed to ascertain current online database
subscriptions in place at the various SUNY libraries. SLiCAT will utilize information from
the survey as it continues to evaluate and select additional SUNYConnect databases.
Please watch the SCLD and SUNYLA lists for information about responding to the survey when
it is ready.

The hardware and software at the LAIP host sites are ready for the year 2000. The
installations of this software occurred during summer 1999. Contingency plans for the LAIP
systems are being finalized...just in case.
WLN Authority Control Services
A number of SUNY and CUNY libraries are now using WLN for
authority control services. This includes the 40 LAIP libraries as well. LAIP authority
files are updated quarterly with any authority records changed by the Library of Congress.
Cataloging records added to the LAIP systems (since the last authority control processing)
will be sent to WLN. Any new authority records generated from this process will added to
the LAIP authority files. The status of any SUNY library's authority file is one of the
criteria being examined in regard to that library's readiness to move to the SUNYConnect
LMS.
