Mark A. Smith"Alphabet soup makes you strong...Advocacy for our profession and for SUNY libraries requires us to be creative and generous in collaborative efforts. We need UUP, we need SCLD, we need FACT, we need COA, we need Nylink, we need NYSLAA, we need OLIS and we need any acronym partner we can find that will help move our agenda forward," Mark A. Smith, prepared remarks June 23, 2000 SUNYLA Annual Conference.

We need SUNYLA. The month after the SUNYLA Annual Conference is a good time to highlight those areas of collaboration between SUNYLA and OLIS.

In just the last year OLIS has tapped SUNYLA for assistance in a number of diverse and important areas. Members of the SUNYLA Library Instruction Committee were an integral part of the evaluation team for the SUNYConnect Information Literacy course. The Association was asked to recommend participants for the ALEPH Configuration Team as well as for SUNY representation at the first meeting of the North American ALEPH Users' Group. SUNYLA gets involved when new members of the SUNY Library Contracts Advisory Team are needed. SLiCAT is the representative group that recommends SUNY-wide database purchases for SUNYConnect. In addition, the SUNYLA Executive Board/Council has been an essential part of the advocacy efforts for the SUNYConnect initiative.

Ms. Laura Cohen (University at Albany) is the SUNYLA liaison to the SUNYConnect Advisory Council (S.A.C.). By all accounts Laura's involvement with S.A.C. has been gratifying and beneficial. For example, Laura indicates "This is one of the most professional, collegial groups I've ever worked with. It  is a committee of impressive expertise and admirable productivity." The OLIS would like to express its thanks to the members of SUNYLA and to the Association's Executive Board/Council for all of their efforts on behalf of SUNY.
