- Recently, PC Week rated the top 100 most innovative government or educational
institutions in regard to their use of information technologies ("100 Innovators in
Government and Education: Public Sector IT Leaders Turn to the Internet to Deliver New
Services and Cut Costs" by Jeff Moad and Stephanie Neil, PC Week Online March
15, 1999).

- The State University of New York was listed in eleventh place. According to the PC
Week article "technologies used to create the scoring model included electronic
commerce, intranet, data warehouse and high-speed networking technologies such as
asynchronous transfer mode and Gigabit Ethernet".
This achievement reflects positively on work being done from Provost Salins' office
particularly Chris Haile's Advanced Learning and
Information Services. An example of such work is highlighted in Tom
Neiss' article contained in this issue of SUNYergy. Moreover, such a positive
rating reveals all the great work being done at computer centers, networking services,
media centers and libraries all around the SUNY system.
