Does it sometimes seem as though there isn't
just one or two major changes affecting librarianship, but a googol? Members of the SUNYConnect
Advisory Council (S.A.C.) would agree. At the end of October, S.A.C. and other SUNY
library leaders met to discuss and plan the SUNYConnect future. Among those participating were reprsentatives from the SUNY Council of Library Directors' Executive Board: Lynne King (Director of Schenectady's Begley Library) and Cristina Pope (Director - Upstate Medical's Health Science Library). In this issue, Lynne shares her views of the SUNYConnect planning process and some of what the future may hold for her library and patrons. In the next issue of SUNYergy, we'll hear from Cristina in regards to the crystal ball and one of SUNY's health sciences libraries. The OLIS thanks them and others for their insight and ideas in a quickly changing realm. One impetus for the planning process is that we've nearly reached the conclusion of SUNYConnect's five year financial plan. Clearly, major components of the next financial plan will be driven by priorities established via that planning process. Areas identified during the retreat included innovative SUNYConnect products & services, alignment with course management software initiatives, SUNY-wide collaborative library collections & management, digital library initiatives, future staffing needs, simplification of SUNY library users online interaction, SUNYConnect-wide borrowing & ILL. Please get in touch with your S.A.C. representative to let them know what you see as SUNYConnect's ongoing priorities. |
